Flip-flops are loved by many, and it is no wonder why. They are convenient, comfortable, and perfect for the summer season. This type of footwear has been around for thousands of years, with the Ancient Egyptians being the first to wear them in 4000BC. Since then, flip-flops have become a global favorite for anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing day on the beach or walk around in the sunshine.
The Origins of Flip-Flops
Flip-flops are named after the sound they make when you walk in them. They were originally made from natural materials such as papyrus, palm leaves, and rawhide. Today, they are made from a variety of materials, including rubber and plastic.
National Flip-Flop Day
Tropical Smoothie Café used to celebrate Flip-Flop Day on the third Friday of June each year. However, in 2023 they changed the date to the Wednesday after Memorial Day to coincide with the arrival of summer and warmer weather. This day is a great excuse to ditch the stuffy shoes and let your feet breathe.
If you visit a participating Tropical Smoothie Café on Flip-Flop Day wearing flip-flops, you can receive a free smoothie. The café also uses Flip-Flop Day to raise money for a worthy cause- Camp Sunshine. This organization provides respite and support to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
Celebrate Flip-Flop Day Your Way
If you don’t have a Tropical Smoothie Café near you, you can still celebrate Flip-Flop Day. Dust off your favorite pair of flip-flops and take a walk along the beach or through the park. If the weather isn’t quite right for sandals, why not go shopping for a new pair of flip-flops to be more prepared for when the sun arrives? You could also put on flip-flops instead of your usual slippers to get yourself in the mood for summer.
Just remember, flip-flops are not suitable for extended periods of wear. Due to their lack of support and thin soles, wearing them for too long can lead to sore or injured feet.
Celebrate Flip-Flop Day in style and don’t forget to wear your favorite pair of flip-flops!
